Over 90 Members Receive More Than $23,000
In Back Pay
Pursuant to the union-backed passage of Chapter 111 of the Laws of
2006, more than 90 members received back-pay awards totaling over $23,000
in their paychecks on November 15, 2006. The legislation, retroactive
to April 1, 2004, requires that Local 1359 members receive their 5 year
and ten year longevity advances in the first pay-period immediately after
qualifying for their awards. Many members did not actually receive their
awards until a much later date. The law also applies to all future members
who qualify to receive 5 year ($850) or 10 year ($1,700) longevity advances.
Members qualify for such awards after they have been at the job rate in
their respective titles for 5 years (their annual salary is increased
$850) or ten years (annual salary increased $1,700). President Ralph F.
Carbone stated "the union had fought for a long time to get this
well deserved benefit for our members and we were required to change state
law to obtain it. I'm glad we were able to make so many of our members
whole."
